"Without acceptance of having one’s deserts being postponed no-one would save, and no capital would be accumulated" - this reminds me of an observation from anthropology: societies in harsh, unpredictable environments with scarce water and food are statistically far more likely to develop beliefs in "Moralizing High Gods" whereas populations living in humid, resource-rich rainforests know survival does not depend on a rigid, zero-sum adherence to a singular code of conduct. Because nature is seen as a nurturing provider rather than a hostile threat, the gods are viewed as more permissive, forgiving, or indifferent to micromanaging human behavior.

That is, Deserts vs Desserts.

The great agricultural societies of millennia past were wise enough to build granaries (to accumulate capital) because they anticipated lean times ahead.

Very elegant, professor, thank you. Deeply Marxist though - some will see it as a drawback. Das Sein bestimmt das Bewusstsein
